A partner and administrator of a lumber company listed in Apuí, Amazonas was sentenced to four years in prison on charges related to the illegal trade of wood products in southern Amazonas. The defendant reportedly recorded false information into the DOF system and as a result received credits for the permit of logs between October 2013 and January 2014. The credits were then used to legitimize (launder) timber that was illegally harvested. The volume of illegal wood that was reportedly introduced into commercial channels was more than 1,100 cubic meters (about 40 trucks worth). This is the first charge from Operation Archimedes.
