55,000 m3 of illegal timber exported by criminal group in Irkutsk

February 12, 2021 - Irkutsk, Russia

Two criminal cases were opened regarding the creation of a criminal organization and its participation in illegal timber trafficking. According to the investigation, four residents of the Irkutsk region and three citizens of China, illegally exported timber worth over 300 million rubles to China through the use of firms registered as dummies. Between 2017-2020 the group allegedly committed 11 crimes related to the smuggling of more than 55 thousand cubic meters of timber. Three persons have been taken into custody, and one has been under house arrest. Three foreign citizens who are part of a criminal organization have been put on the federal wanted list.
