January 27, 2021 - Roraima, Brazil

Following an investigation that began in 2017, the Federal Police launched operation Okê Arô on January 27. Three search and seizure warrants were executed in Rorainópolis. The seizure of R $ 80, 2 thousand in assets was also requested. According to the PF, the logger is accused of the illegal deforestation of 5,000 hectares in the municipality. The Police estimate that 215,000 cubic meters of timber was felled amounting to about 7,000 truckloads of illegally harvested logs. The most common fraud involved acquiring permission to transport “legal” wood of low economic value, but in fact to transporting higher value species, such as Massaranduba. This is a developing story.
