December 31, 2020 - Central Kalimantan, Indonesia

Dittipier Police arrested the owner of a sawmill located in Tumbang Kaman village. The police received reports from a local community of illegal logging in November. The suspect allegedly harvested timber illegally without documents and then sold the lumber to buyers in Java and Kalimantan. The illegal logging allegedly occurred in many locations in Katingan Regency. The suspect allegedly used official documents from legal suppliers to enter into the Hassil Forest Online Administration Information Letter (SIPUHH-online). This allows the generation of a legal forest product certificate (SKSHHK-KO). Duplicate documents were also used in transportation of the timber. Also confiscated were 282 cubic meters of Meranti logs and lumber and heavy logging machinery. The suspect was allegedly operating in the area since 2015.
