December 18, 2020 - Mato Grosso, Brazil

Mato Grosso Civil Police and SEMA closed an alleged illegal sawmill in the city of Santa Carmem on December 18. Sixty cubic meters of logs and 40m3 of lumber were also seized. The wood is allegedly of illicit origin. The action follows an investigation into illegal logging in the municipality Nova Canaã do Norte. A group of people from Feliz Natal reportedly invaded land in Nova Canaã and illegally logged timber. The same group allegedly did the same in Nova Ubiratã.
